Yayoi Kusama was born in Matsumoto (Nagano Prefecture) in 1928 and began painting when she was a child but it was not until her arrival in New York when she allowed her contained artistic vein flow freely. Once there, she was able to break into the art scene of the time, despite the fact that in those years the artistic was a world ment exclusively for men.

Most of the work of this great artist is extremely delusional, she says that her drawings often go beyond the canvas occupying walls and floor, spreading and absorbing everything around, included herself.

At the age of 45 she returns to Japan, where her performances, in which she usually appears, are not as successful as in the United States. Nevertheless, Yayoi Kusama maintains the worldwide prestige achieved in America, collaborating with Louis Vuitton and Coca-Cola among other great brands so far. Since February 9 until June 5 a retrospective of her work is being showed at the Tate Gallery in London, a walk through her long and prolific career represented by a set of 150 drawings, paintings, collages, sculptures, installations, performances and designs.

Yayoi Kusama -84 years old- is still working in her workshop where she goes methodically daily from the psychiatric hospital where she lives by personal choice since her return to Japan.
